Santiago Calatrava (b. 1951) studied architecture and art in his native Valencia, Spain, before pursuing his engineering studies at the Swiss Federal instituto of Technology in Zurich. He completed his Ph. D. on The Foidability of Space Frames at the same institution. An engineer, architect and artist with internacional practice, he has offices in Zurich, Paris and Valencia, which he runs with his partner, Robertina Calatrava. Among his most celebrated architectural and engineering works inciude: Alamillo Bridge and the Kuwait Pavilion in Seville, Spain, the TGV Station in lyon, France, the Science Park in Valencia, and the Miiwaukee Art Museum, USA. He is a licensed engineer in illinois, California and Texas, and the recipient of many honorary doctorales and awards, among which is the distinguished Principe de Asturias Prize in Spain. He has been a lecturer at MIT. Santiago Calatrava´s sculptures and figure drawings form a fundamental part of his life and creative process. This continually growing aspect of his work serves as a primary source of inspiration for his architecture and engineering projects. One-man shows focusing on his artistic work have been shown in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. His Times Capsule sculpture was chosen by the New York Times for the year 2000. There are many books devoted to his work, among which are: K.
