Abstract
Many second or third generation statutory texts have included an important list of civil rights, among which the proclamation of equality between women and men, usually accompanied by the prohibition of discrimination on grounds of sex or gender, occupies a prominent place, thus placing these statutes ahead of the constitutional texts, which are much more timid as far as express recognition of this right is concerned. This paper examines the proclamation of the right to equality between women and men in the Canary Islandsâ?? Statute of Autonomy, as well as the Canarian legislation related to this right, completing the analysis of the issue with a review of the treatment given to such right in the statutory texts of the other autonomous communities.
